Welcome to the Stress Management Institute. Here, you can explore our rich course offerings in Mind/ Body Medicine. and begin helping individuals who have acute, severe and chronic stress. Your goal as a fitness professional is to set appropriate goals, develop customized programs, and work with the medical community in helping your clients to decrease risk factors for developing obesity, diabetes, heart disease and chronic illness.. Our program can also be used for preventative measures to help individuals before they become chronically stressed and then ill.
We use "Functional Meditative Movement" ™ ( coined by the stress Management Institute for Health and Fitness professionals™) when working with clients. You must understand the mind/body connection physically and biologically before prescribing exercise and other stress management modalities. By connecting the dots you can develop programs for the specific needs of each client.
The Mind/Body Medicine Specialist - ES™ (MBMS - ES) credential allows you to oversee our R.E.L.A.X.™ program using the Exero System. R.E.L.A.X.™ can be used in your fitness facility, with your at home clients or place of employment. You may also inquire about becoming an affiliate and have a Stress Management Institute in your fitness facility.
When you become a Mind/Body Medicine Specialist - ES™ (MBMS -ES) you will be able to offer personal training for stress management, instruct the Mindful Stretch™ class, offer one on one meditation sessions, use aromatherapy and be a stress management coach. Each program that you prescribe will be customizable for your clients. R.E.L.A.X.™ blends well with medical programs that may already be established. We use traditional stretches, some of which are similar to Makaho stretches in chinese medicine. When stretching, we stretch the muscles but may also move positive energy through the body. This helps to initiate the relaxation response.
Mindful Stretch™ is a gentle class designed to elicit the relaxation response in a different way from yoga or pilates. Our classes blend stress management techniques with stretching and aromatherapy scents. The class is formatted in a certain way so that participants can achieve a total state of relaxation.
Stress is prevalent in all of our lives and this course will help your clients cope with their stress. When you implement the techniques in this course, your clients will keep coming back to you. To become a Mind/Body Medicine Specialist™ (MBMS - ES) you must currently be a certified personal trainer. Please note that we do not certify individuals to become group fitness instructors or personal trainers. You must already have a primary certification if you want to be hired by a gym.
The course was also developed to help health and fitness professionals cope with their stress. You will learn about stress and different techniques to help you cope. As health and fitness professionals, you are always giving to others, however, you need stress management also.
Once you are certified, your certification is good for two years. We have pre approved continuing education courses available for students to take. You may also petition for courses that are not pre approved. An email that outlines continuing education requirements will be sent to you once you register. There is also a $45.00 fee to become re-certified. Please note that if you are a Mind/Body Medicine Specialist you may just purchase the Exero™ system course manual.
Course Objectives:
. Blend customized stress management programs with personal training
. Learn how to assess clients and appropriately classify them
. Coach clients on time management and healthy coping skills
. Choose appropriate modalities for each client
. Learn how to incorporate all of our modalities into the services you already provide
. Incorporate holistic modalities into your services
. Learn how work with special populations such as: Cancer, Arthritis, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson's Disease as well as many other health conditions. Instructors may also work with healthy individuals.
What can I do once I pass my exam: A Stress Management Exercise Specialist™ can incorporate their new skill set into many settings. The PowerPoint can be used to offer lunch and learns for fitness facilities and companies. You may also consult with and coach clients on stress management.Group meditation, individual meditation and coordinating retreats are also options.

Robyn Caruso is the Founder of The Stress Management Institute for Health and Fitness Professionals™ Robyn received her Bachelor’s Degree from Rowan University in Health Promotion and Fitness Management. She is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) personal trainer and group fitness instructor, a Compassion Fatigue Resiliency and Recovery – Educator and a Veggiecator for children.
Robyn is an industry expert for the Medical Fitness Network and Medical Fitness Education Foundation Advisory Board Member, an adjunct professor for Camden County College and Personal Training Advisory Board Member. She has taken the Mindfulness – Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR) through Jefferson University Hospital for Mindfulness. She has been in the fitness industry for 16 years in medical based fitness.

The Stress Management Institute for Health and Fitness Professionals was developed to certify health and fitness professionals to instruct our stress management program (R.E.L.A.X™.). Students will learn how to create customized stress management programs using Aromatherapy, Mindfulness Meditation, Reflective Meditation and the Mindful Stretch™ class.
